Music Industry Phenomenon: The Eras Tour

The music industry is constantly evolving, yet the impression Taylor Swift has left is unparalleled. Her music may be of an acquired taste, but her chart-topping albums and large fan base have led to her most recent tour, The Eras Tour.

The Eras Tour is expected to be the most successful world tour of all time, averaging over a staggering 70,000 fans in attendance per event.

Swift has set record attendance at AT&T Stadium over her three days appearance in Arlington, according to Fox4News. She is undeniably one of the most impressive artists of all time.

When the tour was announced, fans instantly jumped at the chance to be immersed in a night full of Swift.

“This was a once in a lifetime performance,” junior Nicholas Nakatani said.

The highly publicized Eras Tour showcases her 17-year-career.

“I think it was so successful because of the quality of the show, from the visuals to the atmosphere, everything was so positive and full of energy,” sophomore Amelia Masui-Tiwari said.

She shocked the world with the tour announcement, and ever since then the news about the tour hasn’t declined. With active and constant social media presence, many saw this contribution towards her global effect in society.

“She brings a lot of good press about herself. I haven’t seen bad press on her which might play a role in the success of the tour,” English Language Development (ELD) Teacher Chris Ferry said.

She also surprised her fans during her concert by re-releasing two of her most streamed albums while on tour, Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) and 1989 (Taylor’s Version).

“I think that the re-recording of her two albums got people more excited about [Swift’s] music tour, but also her large following she had originally as well,” sophomore Brooke Chapman said.

Unlike Chapman, others believe that the success of the tour does not rely on the release of the albums because her re-recordings were previously planned.

“Though it is a significant turning point in her career, most of the new albums coming out were bound to happen,” Nakatani said.

Some people say that the large fascination of the Eras Tour was that many fans were eager to watch her previously scheduled tour “Lover Fest” in 2019, which was unfortunately canceled due to Covid-19.

“This is her first tour in five years, so it is a big deal as it consists of more shows than her usual average on her other tours,” Nakatani says

The profits gained from the Eras Tour is immense, further showing the achievements of Swift in recent years.

According to Business Insider, fans are spending on average $1,300 dollars to attend the tour, which it is expected that Swift will earn a grand total of $4.6 billion dollars.

“I have seen the insane prices of [Eras Tour] tickets, and I personally wouldn’t spend that much money on a concert,” Ferry says.

For the Mid-Pacific community, getting the ability to experience this tour might cost thousands of dollars considering travel fares, lodging, tickets, etc. Despite this, some are persevering for a once in a lifetime opportunity to make these memories. “It was worth the time and money, I would experience it again if I had the chance,”
Masui-Tiwari says.

On the other hand, some were not able to make it past the great war of gouged ticket prices, yet wish they were able to experience being in the presence of Swift.

“Due to the high resale ticket prices I wasn’t able to attend, which was pretty disappointing because I would’ve really loved to see her live,” Chapman says.

In August, Swift posted on social media platforms her most recent surprise project. This upcoming project released a trailer for a movie documenting the Eras Tour, which will be entering theaters starting October 13.

“I think it would be very cool to experience the tour from a close up and not like the live concert in nosebleed seats,” Nakatani says.

Compared to a costly Eras Tour ticket, a general admission ticket to the movie will cost nearly $20 in honor of the release of 1989 (Taylor’s Version). Many have high hopes for the show.

“I am super excited for the movie! Though it won’t be the same as being in a stadium with all the lights and energy, I still believe it will be a really fun film to watch,” Chapman says.

If she wasn’t famous enough, rumors have been circulating that she is dating Kansas City Chiefs’ tight end, Travis Kelce. Many of the pop star’s fans flocked to the games hoping to get a glimpse of Swift, as she has been caught supporting her football jock.

The Mid-Pacific community watches as the phenom travels around the world on the legs of her tour. As her music grows so does her reputation in the music industry. It is important that we all recognize the impact that she brings to the future generations of artists.

“She is really inspiring to up and coming artists and setting crazy records that will be hard to match,” Chapman said.
