Mid-Pacific was proud to present its fall musical concerts, on Nov. 1. Beginning with the orchestra concert, featuring the string instruments, and followed up by the band concert.
The multitude of ensembles showcased their many songs they have been practicing over the months. Beginning with the orchestra concert, starting with the beginning orchestra, followed up by the intermediate orchestra, and then the finale with the advanced orchestra.
Followed up was the band concert, which began with the jazz band. Followed up by the beginning band, then the intermediate band, and finally the advanced band. All the ensembles were whimsical, especially for an early concert.
“At first, I was a little nervous, just because last year's concert was a lot later, but this year I wanted to do the concert a little bit early in comparison to other schools that I've taught at where we do orchestra concerts, just a lot earlier,” said Robert Murphy, Mid-Pacific’s orchestra director.
Preparing for the concert was a journey of an experience, for the journey doesn’t just include the ensembles, but the directors have been putting much effort into playing their part into the production. From setting up the stage, preparing the MC’s, and conducting the ensembles, the directors put their hard work into each concert and practice session.
“I tried to work on my part as a conductor, score reading, and musical interpretation alongside the musicians as they prepared the music,” said Eric Bloch, Mid-Pacific Institute’s band director.
A wonderful experience for all of the music lovers and their families, and especially for the new musicians banding together. The beginning ensembles showed great performance upon their first concerts. Plus, they’ve surely gotten a lot to experience upon the stage.
“Because we warm up on stage in front of people, and since we do a little warming up off stage, we can show that we're actually kind of good. Even if we mess up a little bit,” said Quinton, a trombonist from the beginning band.
The more experienced ensembles can confirm this was another “well-done” performance to everyone involved, and a big step for them too.
“There were some hard parts, but nothing I can’t improve on,” said Krish, a cellist from the advanced orchestra.
“I was really looking forward to being able to have a night where I can play music with my friends in front of people. It was a lot of fun making friends through the aspect of band,” said Sam, a clarinetist from the advanced band.
Overall Mid-Pacific’s fall band and orchestra concerts were an amazing experience. Not just for the audience of proud families and friends, but for the directors, and all those who performed and on the production. If you’re one interested in music, be sure to tune in for the next concert.
“Our next big concert is the Pops concert on February 7th, and that's at 5 PM. Both band and orchestra are going to perform popular songs like movie soundtracks or songs you might hear on the radio, and that’ll sure be really fun,” said Bloch.
